Wall around Pyramids (8.01.03)

Ed Jajko reports: "I asked Middle East librarian colleagues with experience in Egypt about the wall around the pyramids. One thought it might have something to do with a new Egyptian Museum to be built on the pyramids plateau.

It was also suggested that I look again at the web site of Zahi Hawass,
http://www.guardians.net/hawass/conservation2.htm
and pull together what he has to say on the subject. In Hawass's web site, one reads that there are three reasons for the wall -- crowd control/security; protection from the leavings of camels and horses; and revenue enhancement. One suspects that there may still be another story behind this, but it is not self-evident, and the question of why this seems not to have been reported in the western press remains open".
