Vital Statistics

Elena Danielson comments on the dismal vital statistics for Denmark:
The Danes are the first to publicize these alarming numbers. The Danish public concerns about their problems are so well known that researchers were astonished when a recent study determined that they were among the most content populations in the world. The numbers do not correlate to social breakdown as they do here. The children born to unmarried women seem to be well integrated into society and not part of a social underclass. Drinking is socially separated from driving and causes less havoc. The suicide rate is about 2% of all male deaths and 1.3% of all female deaths, often among the terminally ill. The Danes have essentially no natural resources, yet a very high GNP, and per capita productivity is among the highest in the EU. In the late 90s they have been cashing in on their natural facility for computer science and the information industry. Just don't expect them to brag about it.
