COLOMBIA: The Street Children of Colombia
"There is a book on the street children of Bogota written in German, originally submitted as PhD thesis to the Faculty of
Educational Science at Free University Berlin (Fachbereich Erziehungswissenschaften, Freie

My comment:This book should be published in Colombia, and clearly the author could translate it into Spanish, which
incidentally would make it more accessible to all Americans. Perhaps Kathrin can find out if that is in the works. It is
extraordinary that the German edition has gone through five editions.
The tragedy of Colombia is literally incredible. I blame the Conservatives, for whom Guillermo Valencia is a secular
saint. When I criticized his statement "Sacrificar un mundo para pulir un verso"--("sacrifice a world to polish a
verse"). they became very angry with me. It was the same mentality which thought that Bogotс was "the Athens of
America". Perhaps it was, because in Athens, the masses, many of them slaves, were illiterate and neglected. The
Colombia mentality puzzles me. On the one hand Colombians are desperate, but on the other had this morning much of
the "news" was devoted to an idiotic interview with a pubilicity seeking bullfight reporter. I refrain from using the term
which this word suggests.

indeed a study of Bogotс's street children:
