Brazilian view of the Americas
Tor Guimaraes writes: "Having grown up in Brazil, living in the US for 30+years, and having worked in other countries, my impression is that Brasil is looking more and more like the poor parts of Calcutta, and the US is looking more and more like Brasil. I mean in terms of corruption, poverty among the citizens, and corruption in government and the "leadership." The US is increasingly looking like a banana republic: irresponsible/corrupt government, financial system blatantly corrupted, collapse in the education system, population being manipulated by a silly media, powerless citizenry increasingly apathetic and frustrated, etc. Do I having the wrong impression?"My comment: Certainly the world has the impression that the US is very corrupt. Even more serious, many Latin Americans, especially Argentines, are questioning the merits of the capitalist system.
