BELIZE and French Guiana
"Indeed, Belize and French Guiana are vastly different. The Creole of Belize is based upon English
and has more in common with Ebonics and the creole as spoken in the various previously British
islands of the Caribbean. This confusion came to a head in the '80's when the UN wanted to create
a small colony of Haitians in the southern part of Belize. It was felt that this would be a great
success because, after all they both spoke Creole...this difference was pointed out and the scheme
came to naught."
My comment: More linguistic confusion. There are various creoles just as there are many varieties
of Pidjin English. The word "creole" has various meanings. No sane person can keep track of all
these niceties. WAIS strongly defends sanity.
