AUSTRIA
Commenting on David Pike's Spaniards in the Holocaust, John Wonder says:"It does not really surprise me that the Austrians were perhaps more fervent Nazis than the Germans. After all, look what the Treaty of Versailles did. It took a reasonably functioning entity, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and simply dismembered it for revanchisme. And look at the mess we have now--no cohesion, no nothing. Perhaps they were understandably bitter in the thirties. If you embitter and make enemies of a whole population and culture, you cannot really be surprised at atrocities if you have any understanding of human nature."
My comment: I agree entirely. President Wilson was a pious man, and he should have known that hell is paved with good intentions. The same mistake, only worse, is being committed by the Eurocrats who are encouraging regionalism with financial help, thus threatening to reduce Spain to the condition of the Balkans.
