Wine and Age

John Heelan committed the unpardonable sin of referring to California wines as "plonk" (an unWAIS word).

I retorted testily: "California has inexpensive wines, but they are not cheap and they definitely are not plonk: I owe my longevity to them".

John replies: "Congratulations, Ronald! My father-in-law home-made red wine from elderberries. It tasted as I would imagine liquid boot polish tastes.
However, he used to drink half a pint of the foul-tasting liquid each day, topped up with sweet lemonade. He died of Alzheimer's in his 90s; his physician told me that had he not had this ailment he would have lived for many more years, as his blood circulation was as good as that of a much younger person.
He attributed this to the daily intake of the home-made wine. So continue imbibing!"

RH:
I repeat: California wines do not taste like liquid boot polish. However, this argument is silly, since neither I nor John has drunk liquid boot polish.
