1: Information Sources>> What is Information Literacy? Information
is available from
many sources and
in many formats,
including printed
text, film, images,
library databases,
Web sites, personal
experiences and
more.
To be information literate you need to have the ability to recognize when information is needed and to find, evaluate, effectively use and communicate information in its various formats. (1) You will not become information literate overnight. Just as with speaking skills and writing skills, your abilities will improve over time as you gain expertise in the topics you choose to investigate and as you practice searching for, selecting and evaluating the information and ideas you encounter. The combined resources of your libraries and the Internet create an almost endless amount of information available to you. With all of these choices, where do you find the answers? (1)State
