Morphological Features

Bunyaviridae viruses have three helical nucleocapsid segments (a Large, Medium, and Small segment). The ends of the segments contain inverted repeats so they form circular structures through hydrogen bonding. The L-segment codes for an L-protein (the RNA dependent RNA polymerase); the M segment codes for two surface glycoproteins G1 and G2 which form the envelope spikes; and the S segment codes for an N-protein (nucleocapsid protein).
