Marburg

Taxonomy: Mononegavirales – Filoviridae – Marburgvirus

 

Power: Hemorrhagic Fever. Fear.

 

Offenses

Attacks: Vascular endothelial cells, leading to necrosis. Fever, headache, maculopapular rash, vomiting, diarrhea, jaundice, delirium, liver failure, extensive hemorrhaging.

 

Outcome: 23-25% mortality. Prolonged recovery, orchititis, recurrent hepatitis, transverse myelitis, uvetis, and other inflammations.

Speed: 5-10day incubation period, sudden onset of symptoms.

 

Defenses

Vaccines: None available.

Behavioral: Biosafety Level 4 containment necessary. Caution of transmission from monkeys. Measures of prevention against secondary transmission from infected patients.

Treatment: Supportive care only. Heparin a possible treatment.

 

Game action:

Place 5 hemorrhagic fever counters on opponent. With every turn, opponent must discard one card due to excessive bleeding. After all counters are removed, flip two coins, lose one life point if both are heads. Discard Marburg .
