The Viennese Ball is a completely student-run organization,
composed of a small army of enthusiastic students and alumni, each of
whom serves on one or more of the committees listed below. Here, we'd
like to recognize all of the volunteers that work for months to put
together one of Stanford's largest and most prestigious annual events.
Without them, the Viennese Ball would not be possible.
Chair: Howard Shen
The Steering Committee comprises
the chairs of the other committees, and is headed by the chairs of the
Viennese Ball. The chair of The Ball for 2005 is Howard Shen.
Chairs: Lucy Sun, Tera Perez
Members: Jeremy Sugerman, Jenna Nguyen, Taylor Cox, Todd Lewandowski
Am Abend organizes the night of the Ball
itself. The committee hires performers, plans food and decorations with
the hotel, and creates the schedule for the day of the ball.
Responsibilities include contacting representatives of the
different groups that work that night (bands, dance groups,
Marguerite shuttles, sound people, etc.), negotiating contracts, and
coordinating everything to make sure the night of the Ball runs
smoothly.
Chairs: Diana Lam, Louise Nutt
Members: Jessi Humphreys, Jennifer Haskell, Eric Chen
Austria Week is responsible for the
events preceding the Ball, usually
consisting of dance lessons and other glimpses into Austrian
culture. In the fall, members find locations and staff for
these events, and also help to publicize the ball by organizing free
dance lessons for dorms. The committee's first big event is a
teaser in January to spread excitement about the Ball.
Chair: Naree Chan

opening dances at the Viennese Ball. The eighteen couples performing these
dances are chosen from the most skilled dancers at Stanford and
practice the choreographies for several months. Following
tradition, this year's choreographies are a Strauss polka
and Strauss waltz.

Members: Lauren Hayes, Kim Tran, Jazib Zahir
Publicity is responsible for creating the
Viennese Ball website; teaser flyers; ads for the Stanford Daily,
Stanford Magazine, and Flicks; and Viennese Ball paraphernalia,
including T-shirts, programs, pre-programs, and wineglasses.
The committee is also in charge of running ticket sales and the logo
contest.
