Mr Bryan is a Program Manager for Xcel Energy’s Smart Grid City (SGC),
Plug In Hybrid Electric Vehicle with Vehicle to Grid (PHEV V2G), and
Wind 2 Battery energy storage programs. His Program Management
responsibilities have included membership of SmartGridCity’s original
program development team for determination of scope, location,
benefits, and financial estimates of SmartGridCity’s deployment. He is
Subject Matter Expert for design of Xcel Energy’s Virtual Power Plant.
He is responsible for Xcel Energy’s Vehicle to Grid (V2G) program
design, implementation, and technical evaluation. He is also
responsible for Xcel Energy’s cutting edge 1 MW / 7.2 MWhr Smart Grid
Wind Storage with Control Systems for Market, Power Plant, Wind Farm,
and Ancillary Market integration (aka Wind 2 Battery). He has a
Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University and a
MBA in Finance from the University of Missouri. Xcel Energy is the
United States’ 5th largest public utility and the nation’s leading
wind energy provider.

Abstract:

“Drivers and Uses of Smart Grid”
Whether a nation is concerned about the carbon content of its energy
portfolio, sources of energy supply, or the decline of local
engineering talent, a smart grid has the opportunity to drive needed
future local investment without increases in total capital or
operational costs while also decreasing the emission profile of the
entire energy portfolio. Drivers such as energy and fuel security,
aging of the technical support resources, and electric transportation
are discussed.
