Dr. Mike Ludowise
Dr. Mike Ludowise , Senior Device Scientist at SolFocus
Dr. Mike Ludowise received his PhD at the University of Illinois under the direction of Nick Holonyak, Jr. He has worked at the central research laboratories of Rockwell International, Varian, and Hewlett-Packard on MOCVD crystal growth for IR detectors, multijunction solar cells, lasers and LEDs. While at Varian his group was the first to demonstrate the use of magnesium as a p-dopant in MOCVD, now the preferred p-dopant in GaN LEDs and lasers, and the growth of strained layer quantum wells, commonly used in communications lasers today. He worked on GaN LED design and process development while at Lumileds and holds several patents on GaN LEDs. Currently he is Senior Device Scientist at SolFocus, a young start-up company marketing concentrating photovoltaic arrays for large OEM power generation installations. He is a member of IEEE and the American Physical Society.
