Taize Evening Worship

First Thursday of the Month

9pm in the CIRCLE Sanctuary

On the 3rd floor of the Old Union Bldg

What is Taize? Taize worship originated at the Taize Community in France in 1940 as an ecumenical Christian monastic community of both Catholics and Protestants. Taize worship is composed of simple songs or chants, usually in English or Latin. It may also include readings from scripture and prayer around the cross.

Singing is one of the most essential elements of worship. Short songs, repeated again and again, give it a meditative character. Using just a few words they express a basic reality of faith, quickly grasped by the mind. As the words are sung over many times
this reality gradually penetrates the whole being. Meditative singing thus becomes a way of listening to God. It allows everyone to take part in a time of prayer together and to remain together in attentive waiting on God, without having to fix the length of time too exactly.
Come, let us worship together

Just as the Taize community in France is an ecumenical community of Catholics and Protestants, this service is sponsored by The Catholic Community at Stanford and United Campus Christian Ministry at Stanford (UCCM). You can learn more about our services and events at our websites:
