This session supplied individuals with tips on how to effectively market their respective department and/or group on campus using bit.ly and Goo.gl. Don and Mark talked about how Technology Training uses bit.ly and goo.gl to collect metrics and to make the client experience easier and faster.

Mark also discussed the benefits of RSS feeds, demonstrating how they can be used to push information to clients.

On September 24, 2012, Google Apps for Education was released to all Faculty, Staff, and Students to access with their Stanford credentials. Google Apps for Education includes email and calendar for Students only, and Drive, Groups, and Sites for faculty, staff, and students.

During this session, Ammy and Jo-Ann talked about the best practices for using the apps available to you, and demonstrated how to properly log in, collaborate with others, and utilize special features that may be useful to you and your department.

This session focused on teaching individuals how to solve common issues with creating HTML Email Newsletter.

Mark Branom of IT Services provided answers to questions such as:

• Why do images in my email newsletter not show up?
• Why is my font different than the one I chose?
• Is it possible to find out how many people are clicking on my links?

Topics covered include:

• The essential steps for creating your HTML Email Newsletter
• Fixing such issues as broken images and incorrect fonts
• Tracking the number of clicks to your links

Computer security is a complex subject, but with the right knowledge and powerful easy-to-use tools, ordinary users can protect themselves very effectively against the vast majority of security threats on the Internet.

During this session, Mark Branom of IT Services, and David Hoffman of the Information Security Office Operations discussed and demonstrated the workings of Stanford’s 2-Step authentication system. Watch this video to learn how 2-Step authentication protects your account against many password and phishing attacks.
