In 2011, Stanford Summer Theater (SST, in collaboration Stanford's Continuing Studies Program and Stanford Institute for Creativity and the Arts), presents our 13th summer season, “The Memory Play Festival,” an exploration of theater and memory.
We continue in the summer with Harold Pinter’s Old Times (Thursday-Sunday, July 7- 24, Pigott Theater, directed by Jeffrey Bihr), a riveting puzzle of competing memories involving an English couple and their mysterious visitor. Courtney Walsh and Cristina Anselmo will alternate in the roles of Kate and Anna, deepening Pinter's exploration of the erotic, physical, and psychological ways we merge with those we remember.
We conclude our Memory Play Festival with Seneca's Oedipus (Thursday-Sunday, July 28-August 14, the Nitery Theater, directed by Matt Moore). This compelling ensemble production (a cast of twelve, including Matthew DiBiasio, Courtney Walsh, Beth Deitchman, and Tom Freeland) addresses the timeless dilemma of Oedipus, who flees the past only to find it before him.
Our free film series deals with cinematic memory, including such great movies as Hitchcock's Spellbound and Nolan's Memento, and runs Monday evenings July 11-August 8, 2011 (7 pm, Annenberg Auditorium). Finally, our Continuing Studies symposium "Theater and Memory" takes place Saturday July 16, 9:30 am-5:00 pm. in Pigott Theater. For more information, go to summertheater.stanford.edu.
