What is Think!?

Think is a disorganization of individuals discomfortable with modern society. Individuals offended by the notion that humans aren't treated much better than any other 'resource' and our planet is only as good its petroleum reserves. Individuals who take exception to the notion that the right to vote equals equality and that a growing economy equals progress. Individuals who think a world where governments were accountable to their actions and people were nicer to each other is, at the very least, desirable.

How, then, does one deal with a society where a man is worth only as much as his purchasing power, and a woman is measured by her lack of a waist? There are, of course, a myriad of options. Some turn to the church and some to the bottle. Some find meaning through politics or the following of one ideology or another. Some decide to throw themselves into hedonism or destroy themselves with violence. Some internalize the materialistic culture and orient themselves toward society's barometers. Some merely recede into depression and fade away.

We've tried the options, to no avail. Jesus came up empty. Our sorrows learnt to swim. The boss didn't care. The ideology wouldn't fit. So we turned to thought, and through it, to action.

Think! is about performing an angioplasty into societal arteries clogged with conformity. Think! is about finding the voices of our collective unconscious, and giving a megaphone to the one that's really pissed off. Think! is about liberating oneself from ideology, getting the hell out of our armchairs, and making a difference.

Perhaps we should do something constructive?

This is what Think! started out with: we are not asking for donations or lifetime commitments. This is an open-ended invitation to join the revolution. Anything you do that inspires, that questions, that burns, that uses your heart and your head, and opens even one person's eyes, then you have done something. What you can do is find your passion, share it, pursue it, let others think about it. Listen. What can you do? Anything - the world is yours to influence...

Perhaps I should join something constructive?

Interested in starting your own creative revolution? Think welcomes passionate, committed people. We are a decentralized, project-based organization, and want members to design and implement their own projects, with the help of Think! resources and fellow members. We invite anyone that wants to help Think! out to design a few fliers -- our primary mode of communication -- and run them by us.

If that's too much time or effort, feel free to distrubute the posters we have archived online. A little cunning can soon equal many free copies, and fliers placed in high traffic areas like dorms, offices, and computer clusters produce lots of discussion. Once these ideas are in the air and on the brain, people will begin to discuss the issues and come to their own conclusions, rather than the blinders and bromides so often offered.

Perhaps I should start something constructive?

If we're not your style or you're too far away, but still like the idea of a group of students challenging themselves and society at large, embark on your own creative voyage. We built Think! with a minimum of funding and organization, and a maximum of passion and creativity. Find people that want to make a difference, express themselves, and have a good time. Use the powerful infrastructure corporate America has built for us -- high quality graphic design programs, the Internet, cheap photocopies, video production labs. Exploit the system as much as the system exploits you.
