Hello Businesswomen,
SWIB has a lot of activities happening this quarter! In addition to tomorrow’s ETL lecture by Carly Fiorina, the upcoming ETL lectures feature equally awesome women, including Mitchell Baker of Mozilla and author Jackie Speier.
In addition to programming and an end-of-year banquet, we have been hard at work selecting next year’s board. We are delighted to announce next year’s Executive Board and Leadership Core.
In the coming weeks we will be circulating member surveys in an effort to improve our programs, and we hope you take a few minutes to contribute your ideas. If you haven’t checked out the new website, take a moment to explore it. We’ll continue to add new features as you wind down your quarter and start gearing up for summer work or adventure!
Best of luck in the final stretch of your year!

Past Events Recap
Stanford Women in Business sponsored several of you to attend the Women's Community Center's Women's Leadership Conference this past weekend, on Saturday, April 28th. Among many other topics, attendees received advice about how to approach a successful career at the personal level. Dr. Doree Allen of the Stanford Oral Communication Program spoke in her talk about the "Imposter Syndrome" about freeing oneself from the fear of failure and allowing oneself to make mistakes by tossing out limiting self-expectations like those of the perfectionist, the individualist, the extremist, etc. Google's Shanna Preve advised women to be assertive in communicating their goals, asking for appropriate positions and pay, and promoting themselves. Finally, keynote Dr. Telle Whitney of the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology reminded audiences of the need to keep trying to find the first few steps to implement an idea, of the importance of mentors and partners, and of the need to believe in themselves.
