Print jobs are billed in one of three ways (see below). It costs 10 cents per page to print and 13 cents per page to photocopy.

For everyone, but primarily for individuals not affiliated with Stanford

You need to purchase a copy card. The card itself costs $1. Additional funds must be deposited onto the card to be available for printing. Select the printer called “ChemLib-KioskPrinter.” This printer is located on the right side when you enter the Swain Library.

Please note that Swain’s cash-to-card dispenser machine does not accept any “new” bills (Green and Engineering Libraries dispenser machines will accept new bills). Please bring crisp $1 bills to add money to a dispenser card as Swain does not have any cash on hand to make change.

How to Print
After sending a document to “ChemLib-KioskPrinter,” go to the “release station” that is located next to this printer and then choose your job, swipe your copy card, and verify the charge. The printer will then print the job, and upon successful completion, your card will be debited the appropriate amount.

Exclusively for students

While students can also print using copy cards as described in Option 1 above, a more convenient option is to use the Stanford Card Plan. The Card Plan is also the only option if you need to print to a printer in the
residence computer clusters. For printing, please see Print Release section.

Please note that after you apply, it takes 24–48 hours before your Stanford Card Plan account is activated.

Exclusively for faculty and staff

While faculty and staff can also print by using a copy card as described in Option 1 above, a more convenient option is to use the special debit plan for printing and photocopying that is available only to faculty and staff. This plan is tied to your Stanford ID. You can transfer funds onto your Stanford ID card at the cash-to-card machines. For printing, please see Print Release section.

How to Use Print Release (Web Based Service, SUNet Authentication Required)

After sending a document to print to any one of the three black and white printers or the color printer at Swain, please go to http://printing.stanford.edu/ and if prompted, enter your SUNet ID and password. Choose the printer to which you sent the job. You will be asked to verify that you wish to print. The printer will then print the job, and upon successful completion, your Card Plan will be charged the appropriate amount.

At printers that have release stations, you can also print by choosing your job at the release station, swiping your Stanford ID card, and verifying the job.
