There are many ways that you can get involved in awareness, prevention, and support for issues of sexual violence and unhealthy relationships.
- Join the Sexual Violence Advisory Board at Stanford.
- The Sexual Violence Advisory Board (SVAB) meets the first Wednesday of every month to discuss better methods of sexual assault and relationship abuse prevention and support for the Stanford community.
- Please contact Carole Pertofsky or Laurette Beeson for more information.
- Join the Graduate Student Committee to End Violence Against Women.
- Stanford recently received a grant to end sexual violence and relationship abuse on campus. The Stanford Community Partnership to End Violence Against Women encourages graduate students to become allies in ending violence in their communities.
- The Graduate Student Committee will specifically focus on enhancing prevention, education, training, and response efforts as it relates to the graduate community.
- We strongly encourage both men and women to join us bi-weekly for discussion and dinner!
- If you are interested, please email Nicole Baran with your name, department and ideal day of the week.
- The Women's Community Center at Stanford offers many volunteer opportunities.
- Please contact Laura Harrison for more information.
- Apply to become a Peer Health Educator (PHE) at Stanford if you are an undergraduate.
- A PHE is a residential staff specialist who actively promotes and supports student health, wellness and safety.
- Please contact the Peer Health Coordinator or visit http://vaden.stanford.edu/health_promotion/faqs.html for more information.
- Enroll in Violence Against Women: Theory, Issues, and Prevention.
- This course examines the root causes of abuse, addresses the multi-leveled approaches to ending violence against women and explores the relationship between violence against women and other forms of oppression: racism, economic exploitation, heterosexism and social class. Men, women, undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to enroll.
- 4 units (audit available)
- Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15-4:45pm
- To enroll or find out more, please contact Nicole Baran.
- Become a member of Stanford’s Men Against Violence group.
- All people have the right to live their lives free of violence and males have a very important role to play in this effort to rid the Stanford community of violence.
- One purpose of the Men Against Violence group is to create a space where men can discuss how traditional gender roles and violence negatively affects the health and lives of men and how, in turn, that violence can be passed on to others in a community.
- All men, graduate and undergraduate students are strongly encouraged to get involved!
- Please contact Donnovan Yisrael for more information.
- Become a sexual assault advocate and actively help others through the YWCA or your local crisis center.
- Please contact Jen Adler or visit http://ywca-sv.org/donate/volunteer.php for more information.
- Learn about how Men Can Stop Rape.
- Men Can Stop Rape empowers male youth and the institutions that serve them to work as allies with women in preventing rape and other forms of men's violence. Through awareness-to-action education and community organizing, we promote gender equity and build men's capacity to be strong without being violent.
