SUPD Postdoc Initiative Fund (SPIF)

Overview

The SUPD Postdoc Initiative Fund (SPIF) provides financial support and fosters postdoc initiatives that enrich the postdoc experiences at Stanford.
 
Since 2010, SPIF has successfully funded diverse projects including multi-disciplinary journal clubs, seminar series, social gatherings (movie, BBQ ...), professional development workshops and so on. For a list of funded projects, refer to the end of this page.
 
If you have a great idea, large or small, SPIF may be able to provide a grant you get started. The "Proposal Guidelines and Application Procedures" can be found below. Questions? Comments? Feel free to email us at spif.supd@gmail.com.
 


Proposal Guidelines and Application Procedures

  1. Presubmission Information
    • Goal : To enrich postdoc (academic, life ...) experiences at Stanford.
    • Who can submit : Current postdoc at Stanford.
    • When : Anytime
    • Budget (2012-2013) : To be determined.
    • Submission overview : A preliminary letter of intent of 200-word, if approved, followed by a full proposal.
    • Example proposals : Multi-disciplinary journal clubs, interest group social gatherings, seminar series, professional development workshosp, job fairs, and so on.
    • Ineligible proposals : Research projects, travel expenses, and alcohol expenses within a proposal, groups directly affiliated with other organizations.
  2. Letter of Intent
    • Please submit a 200-word description of your project, including contact name, email and affiliation, brief project description, targeted postdocs, to spif.supd@gmail.com. The SPIF committee will review your idea before going to the full application.
  3. Full Proposal Submission
  4. Proposal Review
    • Period : Proposal reviewed at the third weekend of each month and decisions sent to applicants at the end of the fourth week.
    • Criteria :
      1. Does the proposal fill a need/gap in the postdoc experience at Stanford ?
      2. Does the proposal attract a general postdoc group ?
      3. Does the proposal fit the budget of SPIF ?
  5. Reimbursement
  6. Proposal Follow-up / Progress Report
  7. Renew Proposals
    • Applicants should submit the "Progress Report" and go through the "Full Proposal Submission", indicating that its a renewal proposal.
