Stanford Report Covers Boom in Number of Postdocs
The Stanford Report (a university-wide daily publication)
recently
reported that the number of postdocs at Stanford
has passed 1750, a nearly 40% increase from
just a decade ago. We are now a bigger campus

out how you can get involved!
Stanford Postdocs Receive 1% Pay Raise
In times of budget cuts, due to advocacy by the SUPD and Office of Postdoctoral Affairs,
the university continues to recognize the important role that postdocs fill at Stanford.
Provost John Etchemendy and Vice Provost for Graduate Education Patricia Gumport announced
a 1% across-the-board pay increase for Stanford postdocs, following a 3% across-the-board
increase last year, both notable for occurring in the midst of a deep university and national
budget crisis!
SUPD Launches Postdoc Wiki: supd.stanford.edu/wiki
The SUPD launched the Stanford Postdoc Wiki to retain useful information for Stanford postdocs
in an easily updated format. The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs maintains a
Postdoc Handbook, but it is not regularly updated.
Meanwhile, individual postdocs possess a lot of knowledge (good car mechanics, dentists, etc.)
that others want to know. Solution: the Stanford Postdoc Wiki, available to all members of the
Stanford community at
http://supd.stanford.edu/wiki.

Join the Facebook and LinkedIn SUPD Groups!
It's easy for postdocs to feel isolated as we toil away in lab. But don't
fear: two brave postdocs have created SUPD groups on popular networking
sites. Navaline Quach in Neurology set up a group on the professional
networking site LinkedIn, and Elie Bursztein in Computer Science set up
a group on the social networking site FaceBook.
LinkedIn: Type "SUPD" in the "Search group" box.
Facebook: Search for the "Stanford postdoc" group.
