Assuming we continue with the tradition of holding the tournament on the last Saturday in February, SMT 2009 will be on February 28th. This date is subject to the availability of space and the schedule of the Rice Math Tournament, held on the same day as SMT. Once the date is finalized, we will send out invitations and open online registration. Until then, you can find general information about previous years' tournaments below. This information won't change much.
If you're a Stanford student or community member interested in helping out with SMT, email Silas (silasj at stanford dot edu) and/or join the SUMO mailing list (see the homepage).
Thanks to everyone who participated in SMT 2008! Results are now available. Team scores and ranks will be sent to your team sponsor soon. We will also be posting questions and solutions online, so keep checking back this week.
UPDATE: Results emails have been sent out. Statistics and score distributions are posted below, as well as the questions and solutions. I don't have contact information for the following schools: Harker, Branson, Homestead, Lynbrook, and Gunn. If you are on one of those teams and want the scores, or if you're a sponsor and haven't received your scores, email silasj at stanford dott edu.
The Fourth Annual Stanford Math Tournament was held on Saturday, February 23, 2002, in collaboration with the Rice Math Tournament. Nearly 240 students came together for a day of math, meeting other people, and fun! Dr. Helen Moore of the Stanford Mathematics Department also gave a talk. The tests and soltuions from this contest are now available in PDF format; follow the links below. In addition, the top results from each test have been posted. If you are a sponsor and would like a spreadsheet with the full results, which is available now, please email Jonathan Claridge.
Here is a set of sample problems in PDF format. There is also a set of sample problems from Rice.
Finally, here are some problems from past contests:
The first Stanford Math Tournament was held on Saturday, February 27, 1999 in conjunction with the Harvard-MIT Math Tournament. Organizing the tournament also led to the creation of the Stanford University Mathematical Organization, which is now in charge of the tournament as well as many other mathematical events. The 2000 tournament was also held with the Rice Math Tournament. The format of the contest is based on the Rice Math Tournament, which has been running since 1981.
If you are interested in helping out with the contest or organizing your own site, please see the organizer information page for more details.
SUMO would like to give a huge thank you to the ASSU for providing funding for the tournament! We'd also like to thank all the students who help out by writing questions, looking over tests, proctoring, and grading!
