Big Fix to be installed on all SUL computers

Big Fix is a software solution for Internet-based attacks on PC's. SUL will be using Big Fix, which is administered by ITSS, in conjunction with our own setups of automated updates of Windows Update and Norton Antivirus. This redundancy will help us to avoid attacks like those we have suffered over the last 2 years.

You can download and install the software from
http://www.stanford.edu/services/bigfix/install.html.

VanDyke Software recently released a security advisory about a potential vulnerability in SecureCRT, the SSH terminal emulation software ITSS distributes through ESS. Version 4.19 of SecureCRT provides a fix for this vulnerability and is now available for download from ESS:

ITSS encourages all users with SecureCRT installed on their system to download and install this new version.

Add BigFix to your machines!

Don't forget to add the BigFix client to your staff machines. Adding it will heighten our ability to keep our machines updated with the most current Norton Antivirus definitions, as well as Windows Updates.

BigFix was implemented by ITSS after the big security breaches suffered by Stanford and other large institutions the last 2 years. Despite our efforts, we will be adding BigFix to our current setup of automated updating, as a precaution.

If you have any questions, please contact Sonny at ldelapen@stanford.edu .
