IMAP Group Accounts Website

ITSS has a website that specifically addresses IMAP Group Accounts, how they work and how to set them up. On this website, you will find explanations of pricing, how to ask for a group account and how to setup your email client for group accounts. The URL is http://www.stanford.edu/dept/itss/services/imap/group.html

For SUL staff, you will need to send a HelpSU, which will need to contain the following information: Preferred name of the account, e.g., sultech, the names and SUNet IDs of all those who need to access the account and who the "owner" will be, which is the person taking responsibility for the account.

In order to clarify the differences, IMAP Group Accounts are accounts that enable more than one user to logon to a single account. This differs from @lists accounts, which provide a single email address that goes to more than one person.

If you have any questions about group accounts or @lists accounts, help deciding which you need, or any other questions, please send an email to Deni at dwicklun@stanford.edu

Email Quota Expirations

Many of you or those you support have received emails announcing that their email quota is due to expire, usually with a date that is about a month away. Should you or any of your staff receive this message, you should not worry. Deni receives a duplicate copy of the email and in response will extend the quota time significantly. Once the extension has been created, Deni will email the user letting him/her know that their quota is no longer near expiration.

Should your user NOT receive this verification email from Deni within a week of receiving initial notification, contact Deni at dwicklun@stanford.edu.

Circ Backup 2005 Stands up to Rigorous test

As you all know, Unicorn was down all day last Friday. For many that meant no work. But for those who worked Circulation Desks around SUL, the new tool, Circ Backup 2005, written by SUL Tech Support's Rob Smith, was implemented on Circ machines around SUL to capture patron charges. Thus far, there have been no reports of failure - quite the opposite. This application made it possible for patron to charge books out all day.

Everyone's help and participation was greatly appreciated.

SUL Applications folder in it's new location

The Applications folder, used by SUL Expert Partners to access licensed software, has moved to a new home on SUL-Wallaby. It has been renamed to allow it to be listed first among the other folders located on Wallaby. All EPs should have access to the folders located here.

To get to Applications, go to Start\Run and type in the following: \\SUL-Wallaby . Look for the folder named @.Applications . Please let Deni know if you cannot access the folder.

Wi-Fi Coming to California State Parks

The following abstract comes from Edupage, an Educause publication.

CALIFORNIA PARKS TO GO WIRELESS
Officials from California State Parks this week announced a partnership
with SBC Communications to bring Wi-Fi access to 85 of the state's
parks over the next six months. Wi-Fi access is already available in
the baseball stadium of the San Francisco Giants and in downtown San
Jose. The fist state park to have Wi-Fi access will be San Elijo State
Beach, near San Diego. Current customers of SBC will be able to access
the Wi-Fi service in the state parks for free; others will have to pay
$7.95 per day. According to a spokesperson from SBC, the revenue from
the service will be split between the company and the state. California
State Parks spokesman Roy Stearns said that access will largely be
limited to areas in and around visitors' centers and campgrounds.
Hiking trails, said Stearns, will not be part of the coverage area.

SUL Tech Support email address

SUL Tech Support now has an email address that can be used for submitting questions, relaying information and a variety of other uses for which a HelpSU or an email to one team member is not appropriate. The address is sultechsupport@lists.stanford.edu .

The usefulness of our new email address is in the need to address us with questions that are not born of a technical problem; relaying information that may or may not be of a technical nature, but is not a troubleshooting problem; and in contacting all the team members of SUL Tech Support, enhancing the chances of one of us responding to your inquiry in a timely fashion.

We view this as an enhancement in the communication between EPs and Tech Support. If you have any questions regarding it's use, please send an email to sultechsupport@lists.stanford.edu .
