Connections
Connections is a resource for anyone involved or interested in the arts at Stanford. This is not a marketplace to buy or sell, though it is a place where you can connect with other people, find collaborators, advertise for open positions (both paid, unpaid, or for leadership positions), and post your needs for services in the arts, from music gigs to graphic design. It is a place for artists and organizers of all kinds to make connections in the Stanford community.

We want your anonymous story of struggles with BODY IMAGE at Stanford
Does this make me look fat? My body is anything but normal. I never thought I'd be anorexic. I only change when my roommate's not in the room. My arms are too scrawny. Gotta go to the gym. I never shower with the team after practice. It seems like I'm the only guy with bulimia. I can't keep my food down. I just can't stop eating. I hate the mirror. Does anyone feel happy about their body?

We want to hear YOUR UNTOLD STRUGGLE with body image at Stanford.

We are seeking ANONYMOUS first person narratives that tells your story:

How have you struggled with body image at Stanford?
With your body image struggles, how have you navigated through Stanford and back home (ex: with friends, professors, dormmates, and family)?
What symptoms do you experience and how does that affect your ability to survive Stanford?
When have your symptoms gotten better or worse and what was that like for you?
What would you tell others struggling with body image or people in the Stanford community if you had their attention?

Deadline for submissions: November 22

Before submitting your narrative, please read these FAQs:

What is this project?
The Stanford Theatre Activist Mobilization Project (STAMP) is teaming up with the Peer Health Education at Vaden Health Center and the Bridge Peer Counseling Center to produce a theatre project about body image at Stanford. We are seeking anonymous, true stories from Stanford students about their struggles with body image which we will use to create a series of performance monologues. We will perform the pieces in dorms and other venues across campus in February 2010, accompanying the performances with panel discussions about body image issues at Stanford. We want to channel real voices of students who struggle with body image issues to (1) raise awareness about the widespread prevalence and diversity of body image issues on-campus, (2) reduce the debilitating stigma asociated with various struggles with body image at Stanford, and (3) connect Stanford students with available resources through post-show discussions.

How much should I write?
Length is flexible, please write in first-person however much you see fit with a minimum of a few paragraphs. The final monologue pieces in performance will be 3-7 minutes. STAMP reserves the right to edit the content submitted and reserves copyright ownership of the material you submit as well as the final pieces. We cannot guarantee that your piece will be incorporated although we hope to use every piece submitted.

How can I make sure that I won't be identified?
The submission form is through an anonymous Google Doc submission - we ask that you do NOT include your name, e-mail, or any other identifying information in the monologue or on the form, including your hometown, names of your friends, etc.

Where can I submit my story anonymously?
