The Stanford Ballroom
Formation Team is a branch of the Stanford Ballroom Dance
Team; we exist for the fun and beauty of ballroom dance
performance. The emphasis will be on dancing exciting and creative
choreography, learning performance techniques different from those in
normal ballroom competition, and working together as a
team to put on
an impressive dance show. Our goal will be to put together a routine
for Stanford's Viennese Ball in February 2010, and possibly to perform
at local competitions as well. We're in our first full year as a
formation team, so you will get to help shape the
team's direction.
Our coaching and choreography will be by Stephen Cullip, who has
coached the US Champion USC
Formation Dance
Team.
You need not have a partner to join, and the
team is open to ballroom
dancers of all levels of experience, but we ask that you have taken at
least beginning classes in some basic ballroom dances or experience in other dance performance groups, as well as a willingness to learn new choreography and practice ballroom technique.
Practices will be in the form of a weekly class, from 8:00-10:00pm on Mondays in Roble 38. The first class will be on October 5.
Quarterly class fees are $15 for student members of SBDT, $30 for student non-members, $60 for nonstudents.
