STEP shares the position of the National Academy of Sciences, affirming that biological evolution is the central organizing principle of modern biology. See National Academy of Sciences (2008). Science, Evolution, and Creationism.

One of 5 chosen Teacher of the Year in California, Kelly Kovacic (AM '02) teaches Social Studies to low-income student populations. She also was selected as California’s nominee for the prestigious National Teacher of the Year competition.
