While gliding the larger, thicker-legged Cooper's juts its head far in front of the wrists, holds the wings level and cocks the wrists forward. While soaring its wings often assume a slight dihedrial, with the leading edges straight. Its flight is stiff, the wingbeats strong.

In contrast to the Cooper's, Sharpie flight is buoyant, the wingbeats rapid and light. While soaring, it holds its wings level, and while gliding holds its wrists barely forward.
