Science Art-Nature will be providing an associated with the large, annual meeting of the Pacific Region of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) to be held in Ashland, OR June 13-17, 2010. The AAAS, whose mission is to "advance science and serve society" publishes the magazine, Science, which has an estimated readership of one million.
We anticipate that the online exhibit will provide an opportunity for your work to be viewed by an audience considerably larger than that for the Artist Registry for Ornithological Researchers. To help you take advantage of this potential viewership, we can include a link to your website on the webpage featuring your artwork.
The theme of the June AAAS meeting is "The Art of Science". We seek images that, when viewed through a science lens, relate at least generally to the meeting. Ours is an online exhibit, so you need only produce a small image with a clear tie. If your time is very limited, perhaps you have a finished piece that could be linked to a symposium or section topic through your caption. (Click here for a list of the symposium topics and sections.) The range of possible subjects is enormous.
The AAAS is supportive of our efforts to raise the visibility of Science Art. By providing notice of our virtual exhibit in their forthcoming Newsletter--which will be mailed to approximately 22,500 U.S. scientists--the artwork should be seen by a lot of interested viewers during the confernce and beyond. (It is very difficult to imagine scientists attending the conference without their laptops!) (Click here to see the ad.)
We are very grateful for support from the Stanford Institute for Creativity and the Arts (SiCa), Artists for Conservation (AFC), and an anonymous friend. This support will help cover costs and allow us to require only a nominal $15 entry processing fee ($25 for two images).
Please keep two dates in mind:
