The right to access medical care is not only a fundamental legal right but a moral right as well.
Paradoxically, although the Bay Area enjoys tremendous diversity in cultures and ethnicities, this same
diversity leads to cases where optimal medical care may not be received due to language differences.
Fortunately, Stanford Hospital and Clinics is adjacent to Stanford University, which boasts as diverse
a student population as many other parts of the nation and even the world. Working in conjunction with
Community and Patient Relations, Interpreter Services at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, SSMI sets as its priorities
the utilization of volunteer
student talent and time to provide excellent patient care for the surrounding community.
