Feminism and Abortion

Feminism and feminists have been recently linked with the pro-choice movement, but it was not always that way. Feminist organizations have pushed aside the fight for equal rights, for protection from violence, for the escape from poverty, and for universal free health care by adopting the right to an abortion as the ultimate "right" for women and their savior from the problems women have faced for centuries. However, the right to an abortion has only pushed us farther from equality and farther from the goals feminism began with.

Feminism has thus produced a foul taste in in the mouths of many pro-lifers, but the truth is that many feminists are pro-life, and that being pro-life adheres to the very soul of feminism -- that all people, regardless of their sex, age, race, religion, or status, should have equal rights and the ability to live a full and happy life. Feminism began to protect and fight for those with the least say in society, those who could not speak out for themselves, being born within the fight against slavery and unequal treatment of women. Now, it is time for feminists to fight for the next group of people discriminated against who cannot fight for themselves -- our unborn children.
