About Stanford Students for Life
Founded over a decade ago, Stanford Students for Life is a voluntary student organization, neither religiously nor politically affiliated. We are committed to the protection of human life from the moment of conception to natural death. Our main goal is to educate the Stanford community about the dignity of human life, especially that of the pre-born and seriously ill. In order to do so, SSFL seeks to engage the academic and larger community in a dialogue that challenges popular assumptions regarding individual autonomy, the right to life, the state’s role in protecting life, abortion, euthanasia and other life issues. However, SSFL aspires to be more than a participant in a debate—we wish to influence the lives of our classmates and those lives that may begin within them. We support crisis pregnancy centers and involve in outreach services for the Stanford and local community to encourage a way of life that respects all human lives.
Our activities in the past have included participating in Walks for Life, volunteering in homes for expectant/destitute mothers in crisis pregnancies, annual Roe v. Wade anniversary candlelight vigils, organizing a pregnancy resource panel, and hosting speakers on topics such as euthanasia, the death penalty, abortion, bioethics, pregnancy, and STDs. Last fall, we co-sponsored a talk by Dr. Rex Greene entitled “Embryo Research & The Goals of Science.” Also, we recently co-sponsored Steven Mosher, President of the Population Research Institute, who gave a lecture titled “The War on People.” In October, we devoted much time and money to publish a full-page pro-life advertisement in our campus daily newspaper. This ad, titled “Human Rights for All,” was published as part of a coordinated effort with 13 other pro-life student groups at elite universities across the country.
