| competition for the SHPE conference in Washington DC this October.
| There are several competitions, all of which have their own guidelines
| and deadlines
|
|
|
| 1) Extreme Engineering Competition:
|
| Although I could not find information for this years competition, here
| is the site for two years age (I assume it will be ran in a similar
| way):

|
| 2) Academic Olympiad:
|
| Since we are taking more than 10 students (I assume) we will
| need to have a team participate in this acitivity. We are going to
| need 4 students, 3 contestants and 1 alternate. This examination is
| analogous to the fundamanetals of engineering examination, so we can
| probably use old exams or study material in order to study for this.

|
|
|
| 3) Design Competition:
|
| We need at least 2 students for this competition but no more than 6. C
| ompetitors must research, design, build, and test a marketable product
| and write a relevant technical paper within an allotted time frame
| based on the theme for the competition. The theme for the 2009
| AHETEMS Design Competition is Adaptive/Assistive Technologies .
| Adaptive or assistive technologies are devices, equipment, or systems
| that enhance, increase, or maintain the physical and/or mental
| capabilities of persons with disabilities.

|
| 4) Technical Poster and 5) Paper Competitions:
|
| These are two separate events for which you have to submit either a
| technical paper or poster (abstract of what will be included in the
| poster) in order to be selected. You would have to get permission from
| the lab your worked with, in order to insure that your research is not
| confidential (which should be an issue at academic institutions, but
| it will be in the corporate sector)
|

|
| So yea, send me back an email informing me of what you would be
| interested in competing. This way I can begin to talk to officers
| and members who have past experiences with these events and get you in
| touch with one another.
