Jessika Lora

Nickname(s)
Jess/Jessi

What are your interest/hobbies other than squash?
research (mainly epidemiological at this point), working out at the gym, though I haven't done so lately, and entrepreneurial clubs or challenges

What do you do after practice?
Jog home. Eat and drink. Write my mom an email about my great day, finish
homework, and talk to the people who wander down the hall.

Favorite book?
just one of them:
Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe

Favorite movie?
Grease is one of the only movies I can watch over and over.

Favorite quote?
I started a book of favorite quotes, but here's one I'll pick for today:
"Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work." -Thomas Edison

Favorite drink?
Orange juice!!!!

Favorite class?
Oooh, that's tuff, this quarter I truly like all of my classes: Things of Beauty, Italian, Social Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation, Intro. to Biotech. The last two are actually interrelated, so I think they are my favorite. The theme that seems to be reappearing is about innovation for the social good.

Favorite role models?
I don't think that I have ever had favorite role models. I really look up to people who succeed amidst adversity. A great example is California Supreme Court Justice Kennard. If you haven't read her biography, you really should!

One word that best describes you?
perseverant or energetic, take your pick

One goal that you would most like to meet?
To have as much success with my own family as my parents did with ours.

One thing about you that few people know?
I was a curious little girl. This means that I have swallowed a lot of things that could be really harmful like a glass Christmas ornament, the heads of matches, plant vitamins or whatever those white things are that you put in plants, chalk, and carpet cleaner.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
Move onto grad school (med-school?), at some point start a family, and find out what other great plans God has for me.

You are stuck on an island with a bikini, toothbrush, tickle me elmo boxers, a pack of pork rinds, and a squash racquet. How do you escape?
I don't know how you ended up on the island with those items in the first place. You can't escape from an island, but I'd just pray that I was rescued soon enough. In the meantime, I'd use the bikini to work on tanning, the squash racquet to practise my swing so that when I got rescued I could still play, and the pork rinds to use as fish bait. The tickle me elmo boxers would surely be the island flag, they're RED too...so my chances of being rescued would increase. And the toothbrush, surely on a diet of mainly fish this is an ESSENTIAL device. ;)

Crumple or fold?
Well, I haven't looked into the matter enough to form a decision.
