Xtreme Squash Celebrates its Inaugural Season

Stanford Squash celebrated the conclusion of its first season of Xtreme Squash. In January, Stanford launched an after school squash/education enrichment program targeted towards middle school students in Redwood City, CA called Xtreme Squash. Twice a week twelve students traveled to the Stanford campus for an hour of squash instruction and an hour classroom work. Over the five and a half month program these students' academic and athletic performance improved dramatically. To celebrate their efforts and improvements, these students gathered May 29th for their first ever team match.

Although they had to face a formidable foe - members of Stanford's men's team - they had a great time and put up a very strong fight. It was certainly a great way to cap off an exciting and rewarding first season. A tremendous thanks to all of the participants and to the volunteers who gave their time and made this first season such a success.

See all the participants here.

Stanford Squash Loses our Squash Angel, Sherry Posthumus

Stanford Squash recently lost one of our most beloved friends and program supporters.  The Stanford Squash program was born under the guidance and support of Sherry Posthumus, the Athletic Director for Club Sports.  We often remarked that Sherry was our “Squash Angel” because of all the miraculous ways she helped our program grow to become the solid program students, faculty, staff and the community now enjoy so much.

Club vs Men's Team Tradition Continues

The tradition of a club team playing the men's team prior to an East Coast trip continued this past Thursday January 10th.  This tradition dates back to the early days of the Stanford Squash program and is a key component of preparing the men's team for their East Coast collegiate matches.  In recent years, the match has become extremely close and competitive and this year was no exception with the club team winning on a 6-4 decision.  The team looks forward to another competition prior to the collegiate nationals in February.
