Matt Bryant
Administrative Associate
Matt joined the lab in March 2012, and is the shared administrator for the new alliance between the Spatial History Project, the Literary Lab, and Mapping the Republic of Letters. Matt has a M.A. in Communications from the U of California, San Diego, a M.F.A. in Visual Art from U of California Riverside, and a B.F.A in Studio Art from the U of Minnesota. His professional background spans academia, non-profits, engineering, architecture, and the arts, and his creative interests include fine art, woodworking, mapping, and DIY culture. Matt has a strong appreciation for interdisciplinary thinking and collaboration, coffee, vintage bikes, the great outdoors, and good music.

Jake Coolidge
Geospatial Historian
Jake Coolidge joined the Spatial History Project at the beginning of 2011. He recently completed a Master's degree in Geography at San José State University, and has a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking from the University of Washington. Prior to joining the Spatial History Project, Jake designed maps and developed geospatial assets as a planning intern for the City of Oakland's Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Program, was awarded the Bay Area Automated Mapping Association's top student prize in 2009, collaborated with Bay Area artists in multi-media art installations, and worked as a letterpress printer. Jake brings these varied experiences and a passion for cross-disciplinary thinking to his work at the Lab, providing GIS and design software support and training.

Erik Steiner
Creative Director
Erik Steiner helped found the Lab in 2007 and served as the first Lab Director until 2010. He now serves as the Creative Director of the Spatial History Project. Before coming to Stanford, Erik worked for several years at the InfoGraphics Lab in the Department of Geography at the University of Oregon. Erik has over a decade of experience in leading the design and development of dynamic mapping applications, including the award-winning Atlas of Oregon CD-ROM and Interactive Nolli Map Website. A designer at heart, Erik is passionate about building deep creative partnerships that cut across disciplines and expertise.
