Stanford Mock Trial Wins Regional Texas Young Lawyer's Association National Trial CompetitionFebruary, 2007
Congratulations to the Stanford Law School Mock Trial program! This weekend two teams very successfully competed against twenty-four other teams in the National Trial Competition, one of the oldest and most prestigious mock trial competitions in the United States Rae Woods '07, Fred Smith '07, and Jeremy Presser '08, won the championship round, and will continue on to represent SLS at the National Championship Competition, to be held in Houston, Texas at the end of March. Over 300 teams competed across the country for 28 spots at the championship tournament. In Houston, the teams will compete for $10,000 and $5,000 awards to go to their law schools. This is the first time a SLS team has advanced to nationals for this tournament! Olga Kuskova '07, Emily Zachar '08, and Jonas Jacobson '09 advanced to the semifinal round, entering the round in second place in the tournament, and missed moving on to the championship round by just one point on one judge's ballot. Special congratulations also to Olga Kuskova, Rae Woods, and Fred Smith for their awards as best advocates in their trials. Each of these attorneys was unanimously voted the top attorney in a trial by all judges. Also, Olga Kuskova was one of three students in the entire tournament to receive two of these top attorney recognitions! Additionally, special thanks to Tony Lopez, who tirelessly acted as the teams' coach all weekend. Good luck to Jeremy, Rae, and Fred in Houston! Contact: Joe Larson | |||
