SAFETY INFORMATION

FOR PHYSICS DEPARTMENT VISITORS

Your safety is important to us while you are a visitor in our Department.  Please review the following document on “Emergency Preparedness” prepared by our Environmental Health & Safety Department for our faculty, students, staff and visitors.  http://www.stanford.edu/dept/EHS/prod/general/erprep/brochures/generalprep.pdf

Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with your surrounding in the Varian Physics Building.  All visitors need to know the Varian Physics Building emergency exits; the locations of the nearest fire extinguisher and the fire alarm; and the location of the Emergency Assembly Point (EAP) specific to our building.  EAP is the safe outdoor destination where building occupants meet to notify management of their safety and get emergency information and assistance. Whenever you hear the fire alarm sound in our building, please vacate the building and meet at the Varian’s EAP.  The Varian EAP is located in the lawn area along Lomita Mall.  The EAP and other safety information can be found in the Physics Department Emergency Plan (EAP on Page 15 & 17).   http://www.stanford.edu/dept/physics/facilities/safety/PhyEmergencyplan.pdf

If you only work in an office, you are encouraged to take the online course General Safety and Emergency Preparedness (EHS-4200) and Ergonomics Computer Workstation (EHS-3400).  Please sign up through https://axess.stanford.edu/, Training (STAR).

If you need to work in labs, the following online training needs to be taken before access is given to any of the Varian laboratories: General Safety and Emergency Preparedness (EHS-4200), Chemical Safety for laboratories (EHS-1900), Compressed Gas Safety (EHS-2200) and other training specific to the lab you will be working in.

All the heath & safety information, related training materials, and policies can be found on the Stanford University Environmental Health & Safety website and in the University Administrative Guide memo list below:
