Director
The idea for a research institute devoted to the quantitative examination of social change was originally proposed by Norman H. Nie, Research Professor of Political Science at Stanford University and Director of the Institute. For Professor Nie's bio and CV, click here.
Research Assistants
SIQSS is one of a few academic institutions that provide graduate students with the opportunity to actively engage in interdisciplinary empirical research. SIQSS graduate research assistants are brought together from a variety of academic disciplines to participate in empirical social science research. Research assistants are involved in all aspects of the research process, from writing research grant applications and designing complex questionnaires to managing scientific surveys, conducting statistical analysis, presenting results at professional conferences, and publishing with renowned social science scholars.
The recent placements of our research assistants attest to the high quality of research training that they have received at the Institute. The hands-on research training contributes not only to intellectual and professional development of graduate research assistants, but also to their success on the academic job market.

Internship and Research Opportunities for Undergraduates and High School Students
SIQSS often incorporates high school and undergraduate interns; these students are actively involved in research projects under the supervision of graduate student research assistants. Interns and research assistants perform a variety of tasks, helping with the actual data analysis and background research, but also learning new technologies, and presenting their work to the SIQSS research team.
