We emphasize using micro- or survey data to address issues important for both national policy and the progress of the social sciences.

We collect our own data where possible; in other cases, we rely on analysis of existing major surveys, such as the Current Population Survey (CPS) and the General Social Survey (GSS). We are empirically-based and highly rigorous in our use of quantitative methods.
SIQSS has several major projects in progress in 2008, including an examination of social isolation in the United States, a study of survey fatigue, a statistical piece on imputing missing data, a project examining the relationship between Internet use and political polarization, a study on Latino voter mobilization, and the ongoing education project, which explores two hypotheses about the effects of education. For more information about these projects, click here.
Past projects have included an analysis of the 2000 census and a piece on mental well-being and Internet use. For more information about these projects, click here.
