What We Do
| |
The focus at SIQSS is on performing empirical research while mentoring graduate, undergraduate, and even high school students through our research assistantships.

The major projects under study at SIQSS in 2007 are, among others, the time study project with its various subprojects, including an examination of social isolation in the United States, a study of survey fatigue, a statistical piece on imputing missing data, and the concluding stages of our project on Internet use and mental wellness; a project examining the relationship between Internet use and political polarization; a study on Latino voter mobilization; and the ongoing education project, which explores two hypotheses about the effects of education. SIQSS also hosts a seminar series focused on current empirical research in the social sciences. The purpose of the series is to expose Stanford faculty and graduate students to innovative research in empirical social science. The faculty advisor for the series is David Brady, Morris M. Doyle Centennial Professor in Public Policy, Bowen H. & Janice Arthur McCoy Professor in Leadership Values, Professor of Political Science, Deputy Director and Senior Fellow at Hoover Institute.
