The Stanford Institute for the Quantitative Study of Society (SIQSS) is a multi-disciplinary independent research center at Stanford University.

Founded in 1998 by Norman H. Nie, Research Professor of Political Science, the Institute is devoted to the pursuit and sponsorship of high-quality empirical social science research about the nature of society and social change. The central mission of SIQSS is to provide social knowledge, develop the empirical social sciences as a primary tool for understanding social reality, and inform the community at large concerning policy implications of that knowledge.
We seek to fulfill this mission by undertaking socially relevant, theoretically important, and methodologically sound social research that can inform scholars across disciplines and leaders in the public and private sectors. The research at the Institute is performed by a multi-disciplinary group of researchers, bringing together faculty and graduate students from political science, sociology, statistics, education, economics, engineering, and other fields. Most of the Institute's activities are supported by research grants and by gifts from individual and corporate donors.
