Karen Alonzo

#1, Bronx
|
Wazzap? My name is Karen and I’m known as “Bronx”, Delta Eta #1 by my sorors. If you haven’t guessed it, I was born and raised in the Bronx, NY and I will continue to rep it until the day I die. I love New York (only the best city in the world) and picture myself living in no other place in the future. I came to Stanford aspiring to be a biomechanical engineer but clearly that changed when I decided to pursue my true dream: to be the next Nike CEO. I am member of the class of OHHH-LEVENNN and I’m currently thinking about pursuing a double major in Communications and Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity and a minor in Modern Foreign Languages. Ideally, I would become the next Nike CEO, fly all over the world, speak at least 10 different languages proficiently, and live the lifestyle of the rich and famous. Of course, that is my dream but becoming a sister for Sigma Theta Psi has helped me realize that anything is possible through hard work, commitment, and dedication.
I love dancing (whether it be choreographing hip-hop or contemporary, or mixing the two to come up with something unique and fresh), playing lacrosse, collecting exclusive sneakers (true sneakerhead), SHOPPING in general, Yankees baseball (biggest baseball fan) and listening to good music blasting as loudly as possible.
There is a difference between acquaintances, family, friends, and sisters. Acquaintances are good to network with. My family will always be my top priority for all the things they have contributed into raising me into the person I am today. I love my friends because I know that I can have a great time with them and goof off, but my sisters hold a special place in my heart because I know that I can count on them for the more important things in life…(again, something that I learned in the process of becoming a sister of Sigma Theta Psi)
If you want to know more, ask about me and I’m sure you’ll hear a series of things :)
Until then: Get them A’s and live life to the fullest. Real Talk.
The 1 and only, Delta Eta Ace—T-PSIIIIIIII

Hey baaaby! My name is Amanda, also known as Happy Feet Delta Eta #2! Yeah deuces!
I am Mexican/ Puerto Rican but grew up in wonderful Covina, California where I have lived my whole life before coming to Stanford. I love Southern California and its beautiful Sunny weather, but I'm always up for change and new adventures. I have built many strong relationships throughout my life with my family, friends back home, and friends here at Stanford. I know that I can always count on them for anything and love them to death! ÊWrestling with my 6'4" brother Joshua, competing with my two older sisters, Marisa and Jessica, and the influence of my hard-working mom have all made me the strong-minded and competitive person I am today. My C-town friends Jessica, Linda, Daryl, Brialle, and Johnny have also always been there encouraging me and keeping me grounded. ÊAnd when I just want someone to shut up, listen, and give me kisses, I have my doggie Nala! I miss all of them, but have found another family here at Stanford when I became a sister of Sigma Theta Psi! T-Psi!
I got my nickname from the movie about a tap-dancing penguin because I tend to randomly break out dancing without realizing it. I have always loved dancing from a very young age and even have home videos of me dancing with my dad when I barely knew how to walk, but somehow I knew the basic Salsa step. I am majoring in International Relations, and know that I will be very passionate about whatever I end up doing in life.

SoOo my name is Erika Topete Ruvalcaba. I am of Mexican heritage and LOVE Mexican food... I was raised in Houston, Texas and get home sick very very much.
I am the middle of three daughters and feel extremely lucky to have the sisters and the parents God gave me, as well as my Sigma sisters I have come to love and respect immensely.
I plan to major in International Relations with a minor in Latin American Studies. I want to go to Chile and Spain my junior year, and believe the Spanish language to be the most beautiful language in the world! One of my biggest goals in life is to travel throughout Latin American countries. My most fulfilling dream in life is to have a career that I love, a husband that truly loves me and to become a mom my children can look up to and be proud of. My family is what I treasure most in my life.
I love music…salsa, batchata, tejano, Spanish rock, alternative rock, hip-hop, R&B fo sho lol, and ofcourse country! I hardly watch T.V. but am a movie addict. There is always a movie I have not seen.
I try to find a balance in life. Too much of anything is not good. I love to learn and I think that this passion guided me to Stanford. I value hard work with the greatest admiration. Actions speak louder than words. I am not perfect. I do not exercise like I should. I stress easily. I doubt myself from time to time. I know I have a purpose in life, and I am convinced that I will find it.

Aleah Robbins

Hi all! My given is Aleah Robbins but all my friends and family back home either call me Leah or Leaky (haha don’t ask). I was born in raised in Philadelphia, PA where I attended Girard College, a boarding school, since 5th grade. All the friends I have now are people that I’ve grew up with at Girard and I consider them my family. The two people I miss like CRAZY when I’m in Cali are my little brother Allen aka FatMan, and my besti T’Aira!!! My little brother and I have been through so much together. He’s my little solider following in my footprints and I love him with all my heart. My Besti has been with me from the start and words can’t describe how happy I am that she’s in my life. All my family and friends have been very supportive of me and I don’t know where I would be without them.
I am a member of the class of 2011 majoring in Urban Studies. As for the future, I plan on going back to Philly and rebuilding the ‘ghetto’ areas that people don’t want to deal with. I believe that many of the problems that plague Philadelphia can be resolved with a positive sense of community and attachment that can be initiated with structures.
When I’m not making crazy plans for the future, I’m most cheering on the Stanford Cardinal!! I love sports and what a perfect way to show your pride for your school than to be a cheerleader!!! Yeah, I’m not your typical cheerleader. I am NOT super peppy all the time. I definitely have an on and off switch. So when I’m on the field or the court you know I’m there and my presence is felt. Cheerleading is my PASSION! I love everything about it and cheering at Stanford has been a wonderful experience. If I’m not at cheerleading practice then it’s likely I’m chillin with my sisters or shopping online. It’s my addiction. Or you can find me in my room listening to music or writing songs and poetry.
I became a PROUD sister of Sigma Theta Psi in the Spring of 2008. With A LOT of help from my line sisters I stuck through some hard times and entered into a wonderful sisterhood unparalleled by any other. Sigma Theta Psi has taught me so much about how to appreciate and learn from people who are different from you and I am so grateful to have a strong group of women supporting me through everything I encounter.
T-PSI!

Hey, I’m Caithlin, and am a PROUD Sister of Sigma Theta Psi Multicultural Sorority, Inc! I was born and raised in Washington, DC. I LOVE MY CITY, and I rep it hard -- not many people are DC natives, and I don't think I could call many other places home like I do with the Nation's Capital. Except maybe Paris, or NYC, or Miami, or Rome, or Dublin … haha, I guess you can tell that I’m a city girl who loves to see the world!
Anyways, I’ve attended private school my entire life – first Burgundy Farm Country Day School (BFCDS – and yes, we had a farm) for elementary/middle school, then Georgetown Day School (GDS) for high school, and now Stanford. Nature and the environment where huge parts of my education, as was multiculturalism and the importance of diversity. Actually, both BFCDS and GDS were the first racially integrated schools in Virginia and DC, respectively, so the importance of multiculturalism was integral to both academic environments. In high school, my friends and I were the "diversity kids" because were so involved with social action and multicultural groups, and later many of us were co-heads of those clubs. Thanks to the very progressive education I got, I can safely call myself an activist, feminist, and ally. Also, it's one of the reasons I'm really investing myself in Sigma Theta Psi – it seems like an appropriate continuation of my multiculturalist education.
Other things about me? I love sports, especially rowing, football, and Taekwondo (I’m on the Stanford Taekwondo team), and I dream to be in the Olympics one day. As for my heritage, I'm Irish American, and it's actually a really important part of who I am – my Nickname, BANSHEE, comes from the Irish mythical being whose name means “Woman of Peace.” I also sing (mostly gospel/r&b) and listen to an eclectic mix of music, love to dance, and I LOVELOVELOVE to travel … I know I want to study abroad, but I'm not sure where!
As for why I wanted to join ST?, I knew I wanted to go Greek, but I didn’t want to be in a superficial Organization that brought women together just for their similarities – I wanted to associate myself with WOMEN OF SUBSTANCE, who respect and celebrate each other’s differences as well. And what a fabulous group of women I now call my Sisters! They’re all beautiful, very intellectual, hilarious, compassionate, driven, fun-loving, and just overall awesome people. Plus, it’s a small community within the larger Stanford one where I can feel supported, appreciated, and cared about. It’s truly a Sisterhood unparalleled by any other, and I can definitely say that I am honored to wear my letters. SIIIIIIIIIIGMA!
S.T.P. ‘till I D.I.E
