Nuritzi Sanchez

#2, Coqueta

Nuritzi Esmeralda Sanchez, a proud DEUCE and BUTTERFLY, is from Woodside, CA and will be graduating from Stanford in June 2008 with a B.A. in International Relations and a psychology minor. Because of an amazing internship position this summer dealing with immigration law, Nuritzi plans on exploring a future in immigration law and plans on applying to Law School next year. Nuritzi sees immigration law as a way of helping to increase diversity in the US, helping families from all over the world to form the life that they wish live in the place they wish to live it, while maintaining the country's need for security in mind. Nuritzi realizes the politics behind many immigration decisions and sees herself fighting for just laws and implementation, making sure that immigrants are not taken-advantage of. As a first-generation Mexican-American woman, Nuritzi has always found herself in the midst of a multicultural existence, and has often battled with balancing the culture she lives in with the culture her parents come from, because she deeply values each. Last year, in Autumn 2006, Nuritzi added a new dimension of multiculturalism into her life when she found her German-Puerto Rican boyfriend, Marco-Manuel Reyes, in Paris while traveling around Europe before her 3-month studying abroad program began in Florence, Italy. As dual citizens (Germany/US and Mexico/US), both Marco and Nuritzi share an appreciation for multiculturalism and know the value of being open-minded and appreciative of diversity. Nuritzi feels lucky to be a member of Sigma Theta Psi because it has allowed her to explore her passion for diversity among a group of similarly interested women, to learn more about her own cultures, and to become exposed to new ideas, cultures and beliefs by participating in and supporting many different Stanford community events. Sigma Theta Psi allows women to truly grow as individuals and leaders, while helping to spread cultural awareness, and for this, Nuritzi is thankful. As the social and unity chair sophomore and junior year, and Vice President her senior year, Nuritzi has truly seen herself grow within the organization and hopes to contribute much more before she graduates!

Natalie Rios

#4, Candela

My name is Natalie (my sisters call me Candela) and I am class of 2007 and I'm majoring in Communication and minoring in Psychology. I became a sister of Sigma Theta Psi Sorority, Inc. in 2005 (with my two line sisters Dangerous and Coqueta). I am a local, I was born in San Jose, CA but have lived in East Palo Alto for most of my life. I have two brothers and two sisters (I am right in the middle) and both of my parents are from Mexico. On campus, I have been Publicity Chair, Historian, and Multicultural Chair for ΣΘΨ and I have also participated in UNIDAS, MEChA, the MCS Lab, The Stanford Daily and I have done a little bit of drama. I also studied abroad in Italy for a quarter (which I recommend). After Stanford, I will be attending NYU where I will work towards a master's degree in journalism. I'm excited to see what life outside of California will be like but I know I'm going to miss my sorors. My time at Stanford was that much better because of them ;)

Amber Rose McCartney

#8, Dangerous

What's up world. I'm Amber, also known as DANGEROUS by my beautiful sorors. Don't let the name scare you, there's nothing to worry about as long as I am on your side... :)

Anyway I am part of the Class of 2007 here at Stanford, majoring in English and minoring in Spanish. My greatest passion (besides life itself) is educational justice. I am very involved in public service in the field of education, tutoring for both EPASA and Upward Bound, as well as being named a Haas Summer Fellow in 2005 for a project in which I designed a website to help high school students prepare for college.

Straight out of Desert Hot Springs, CA a.k.a. D-Town or the Dirty D, I represent the desert hard core. I think Stanford is beautiful, but nothing compares to the sunsets, horizons, summer nights, and starry skies of my desert home. I love my hometown despite all of its struggles and hardships, because I believe those things have shaped me into the strong, driven woman I am today.

Some of my favorite things are: basketball, running, sports in general, reading, writing, appreciating the arts (museum art as well as dance, poetry, spoken word, theater, music, and street artists -- those people are amazing and should get way more money for what they do), hanging out with my sorors, supporting them in their many activities and endeavors, STEPPING for sure, making videos as final projects for classes, being vegan, enjoying life,... yeah yeah yeah, and spending quality time with my b/f and best friend Mike :)

I am a PROUD sister of Sigma Theta Psi, and I believe that shows in everything I do. T-PSI to all my Sisters!

Keepin it real since 1985,
Amber a.k.a. ~*DANGEROUS*~ DD#8 -- Spr '05
