Emmett Keefe is having a colleague, Harvey Alter, (whom he, Emmett, respects very much) present an update on Hepatitis G and to present strategies for a zero-risk blood supply in this country. He's a fine speaker!
In that vein, I am reminded of how grateful our patients should be to Dr. Ed Engleman (joint appt. in Pathology and Medicine) for his decision, well before there was an HIV test, to NOT accept blood for transfusion that had lowish CD4 counts ... I wonder how many lives that decision saved? ... Probably a lot lot more than I've saved in rheumatology!
