Medical Grand Rounds - Thursday, April 24 - 8:30a.m. - Fairchild

DR. ROBERT LAHITA, a guest of Dr. van Vollenhoven, has become one of the country's experts in the Anti-phospholipid Syndrome. This entity is particulary interesting because (1) its discovery has explained a lot of phenomena (e.g., false positive tests for syphilis in lupus) as well as clinical pictures (e.g., recurrent spontaneous abortions, hypercoagulability states - acute and chronic) and (2) its discovery has opened many new doors for clinical investigation of clotting and hemorrhagic disorders.

Dr. Lahita will talk on its pathophysiology, presentations and treatment. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is Chief of Rheumatology and Connective Tissue Diseases at St. Lukes/Roosevelt Hospital.
