About

The Stanford Gaming Society (SGS) exists to help gamers have fun playing games. It is your campus resource for table top role playing, live action role playing, collectible card games, strategy board games, and war games. Welcome aboard, and if you have any questions, please let us know! Thanks, and enjoy! If you have your own event, use the mailing list to let people know. SGS exists to help people enjoy themselves by playing as many fun games as possible!

To use the mailing list, send an email to gaming-society@lists.stanford.edu. We use the mailing list for most communications, and anyone can send emails. No spam please!

Video and Computer Games

While members of SGS are usually interested in video and computer games, the club itself is not oriented towards them. As a club SGS stays away from "games with screens". Feel free to join us, and ask around afterwards if individuals are interested in playing other games.

– Daniel Whalen, SGS President

Sepetember 17, 2011 - Fall Quarter:

April 26, 2011 - Spring Quarter:

So first off, we’re all very lucky this week! We’re having more games than you thought you were going to have! We have games tomorrow at the usual time/place: Meyer Library 146 from 8pm until midnight!

If that’s not enough to whet your appetite, we’ve got MORE GAMES on Friday evening! We'll be in Meyer Library Room 146/7 from 8pm until midnight especially for ProFros (Prospective freshmen)! Bring friends and also any ProFros you have as well! Then, because that’s not all we’ve got lined up for you, we also have a LARP (Live Action Role Playing Game), or two depending on the numbers, planned for Saturday night! Starting at 7:30pm in Meyer Library (you guessed it!) 146 and 147 and running until the customary midnight ending. Please show up on time, and shoot me an email if you’re interested in playing or running one of them. However, if you're a ProFro, or just new, you can either just show up at 7:30, or stop by our table on Friday and let us know if you're interested.

Also coming up next month is the next installment of the monthly long board games afternoon. It’ll be on the second Saturday of May (May 14th) from 2pm until 8-ish or we’re done. That’ll be held in building 110-112, ie the Classics building. More info on that will be coming at some point later on.

That’s all for now, and I hope to see you at any/all of the events coming up this week!

January 27, 2011 - Winter Quarter:

Welcome to a new (calendar) year of SGS! This quarter's weekly board game meetings are being held every Thursday from 8pm until midnight/1am in Meyer Library room 146. We're still playing games every time, so bring a game of your own, and also feel free to bring along some friends!

As always, the website tends to lag behind what's actually going on, so please go and subscribe to our mailing list to keep current!

September 25, 2010:

So We've decided on weekly board game nights! They are Thursdays, 8pm until midnight/1am in Meyer 146. If you're here from the welcome email, just note that the website manages to lag behind the email list in terms of the most up to date information. We're open for suggestions for the website though, and can even bequeath a nifty, "Webmaster" title on you if you're willing to help out with it.

With that, we hope to see you this coming Thursday at board games, and keep an eye out for tabletop and LARP information on the list. The google calendar has also been updated to include this quarter's weekly games nights, but if you're interested in adding your own, send Karen or Chris an email, and we'll see what we can do about adding you to it.

Lastly, we are looking for more Vice Presidents for this year, and in providing training for next year. Let Chris know if you're interested, and we've already gotten a couple interested people so far. Have a great weekend!

– Chris Chelberg, SGS President

September 14, 2010:

Welcome freshmen and returning students! We've got a lot on tap for this year, so stay tuned to the mailing list. Our activities consist of weekly board game events (day of the week to be decided soon) and the occasional organized Live Action Role Playing Game, ie a LARP. There's at least one per quarter, and they're a lot of fun. If you're into Magic the Gathering, you should take a look at the MTG mailing list, which you can join. Directions are listed under the Types of Games page.

We will have a table at the Activities Fair on the 24th, so stop by and say hello, and sign up if you haven't already for the mailing lists! We hope to see you around soon!

– Chris Chelberg, SGS President
