Sixth annual Advanced Filmmaker's Workshop '06-'07: Applications

Hello student filmmakers,

The Stanford Film Society is seeking applicants for the 6th annual Advanced Filmmaker's Workshop '06-'07.

About the AFW:
The program consists of weekly meetings, the writing and revising of a brief screenplay for the Pumpkin Pie Festival, and four weekend shoots of 8 hours each. The meetings will cover use of the advanced workshop's camera equipment, provide group critiques of each member's screenplay, and screen rough cuts of the short films. The screenplay will be part of a cohesive group project centered on a theme decided by the group at the end of spring quarter this year. We encourage you to start work on these scripts over the summer. The weekend shoots will involve rotating crew positions — director, cameraman, sound mixer, and boom operator—to familiarize members with all parts of the filmmaking process and provide full crews for everyone. Members typically direct their own script and see their project through editing themselves. Coordinators act as assistant directors for each project. Shoots generally run late October through winter break. The workshop culminates in the Pumpkin Pie Project, a campus wide screening of shorts from the AFW

Special advantages:
  • Group support
  • Organized structure
  • Really nice equipment: lights, Panasonic DVX100 camera, sound, etc.
  • Full crews
  • Campus-wide group screening in Cubberley winter quarter

Please submit applications by May 31st, 2006
