CALL FOR ENTRIES! 2007 Stanford Student Film Festival Open Submissions

Rules of Entry
  • Deadline for entry is 5pm, Monday, April 23, 2007.
  • Films must have been produced while the filmmaker was a registered student of Stanford University* (undergrad, grad, or doctoral).
  • Copyright law is observed at this festival. Any film that features copyrighted material (e.g.: music/soundtrack, images, speech, footage, and/or screenplay) must also submit written proof of permission for use from the copyright holder. Failure to include such proof automatically disqualifies your film for entry.
  • While filmmakers may submit as many entries as they like, please be aware that each filmmaker may only have a maximum of 2 films screened at the Festival.
  • Films completed as part of a class, (URO) grant, or thesis project are welcome and may be submitted as entries.
  • Films that have been shown at previous Stanford Student Film Festivals are ineligible for entry.
  • We are seeking short films (around 15 minutes or less in length). Due to the festival schedule, feature length films are ineligible for entry.
  • Films shot on video must be available in NTSC format. (We do not have the facilities to accommodate PAL or SECAM screenings).
  • Foreign language films must include English subtitles.

*Work completed during the summer between registered quarters is acceptable. Work completed while abroad at one of Stanford’s Overseas Programs is also acceptable. Alumni are very much encouraged to submit, as entries are not limited to currently registered students of Stanford.


How to Submit your Film
  • Please submit an (NTSC) VHS copy of your film. Do not submit the master, as all entries and accompanying materials we receive cannot be returned and will become property of the Stanford Film Society.
  • On separate piece of paper to be included with your VHS entry, please provide the following information in typewritten form:
  • Title of film
  • Month and Year of completion
  • Running Time
  • Format of Master (e.g. 35mm, 16mm, Hi8, DV, Beta SP, etc.) and Aspect
  • Ratio (e.g. 2.35:1, 1.85:1, 1.78:1, 1.33:1, etc.)
  • Indicate whether your film is Color or Black & White
  • State & Country where the film was made
  • Synopsis of film (short description of film’s storyline)
  • List of Principal Cast and Crew members
  • Film History: any previous screenings, festivals, or awards this film was selected for.
  • Name of Director
  • Years registered at Stanford University
  • Year of graduation, degree(s) and dept(s) granted in
  • Current mailing address, phone number, and email address
  • (If necessary; see rules of entry above) Provide a copy of the written documentation of permission of use for any copyrighted material.
  • Drop off VHS copy and accompanying materials at the SFS Office:

  • Please note that all films (and any other submitted materials) must comply with Stanford’s Fundamental Standard.


Notification
  • If your film is selected to be shown at this year’s festival you will receive notification late April/early May.
  • If your film is selected, you will also be expected to provide:
  • short bio of the director
  • a master copy of your film for exhibition at the festival (this will be returned to you)
  • a still frame from your film (please select an image which you feel best represents the film)
  • if you will not be able to attend the festival (May 17, 18, & 19); a brief introduction to the film (1 minute or less) that you would like read to the audience
  • a DV copy of your master that SFS will keep as part of its Festival Archives
